Navigation

To move from one page to another you should normally use the Navigation Bar at the top of each page. You can also go to a page by clicking on a link, e.g. on the home Page. Links are shown in orange.

Some pages are not shown on the Navigation Bar, to reach them you have to use a link on an appropriate page. From the Studs page, for example, you can get to individual stud pages by clicking on a link there.

Links

Links are coloured orange; when you move the mouse pointer over a piece of coloured text, it is highlighted to indicate that it is an link. Some links will take you to another page on this web site. Some will take you to a page on another web site. Some will download a file in PDF format. Some will begin an email message. It should always be clear what action a link will cause; those that download a PDF file for example show the  name of the file.

Loading speed.

If you are using a dial-up connection to the internet you may find some pages load too slowly. This will happen when a page involves a number of photographs. Pages will usually load more quickly if you have recently visited them. Still users with a very slow internet connection may find they cannot conveniently access some pages. The pages most seriously affected are the Photo Galleries and the Blog. But see the note on broadband below.

Photo Gallery pages

When you visit the gallery site you will initially see a thumbnail for each gallery. Clicking a thumbnail will load the gallery as a series of small pictures. You can view a larger picture by clicking on the picture you want to see; clicking a second time will return you to the gallery view. You can alternatively view the photos as a slide show. To do so click on the slide show button. The slide show will take a little while to load.

The Blog

The blog is a web log of recent activities sponsored by the DSV or its members. When you visit the Blog page you will see a series of brief excerpts from stories, and a photo. To see the whole story click on the heading or on the ‘See More’ link. The stories are listed in the order in which they were posted to the site. Older stories are not listed on the summary page but are still stored in the Archive.

Blog sites commonly allow for individuals to subscribe and post comments. At this stage we have not activated this facility.

Help

The full web address for our site is http://www.donkey.org.au. However the initial ‘http://www’ does not need to be typed into the address field since the browser provides that whenever it is needed. But you do need the last bit ‘org.au’ or you’ll end up on the wrong site. After you have visited the site a few times your browser will probably complete the address when you type just ‘donkey’.

Broadband connections

Under the Federal Government's Broadband Guarantee Program, internet Service Providers receive subsidies from the Government for providing services to customers whose broadband access is limited. This saving is then passed directly onto consumers, who receive broadband for comparable prices to metropolitan customers.

Those eligible for subsidies must meet the primary condition that they are unable to access broadband services at their primary place of residence or business.

Several companies offer broadband connections under this program. One such is Activ8.

Activ8 is now offering Satellite Broadband for $0 installation and only $9.95 per month.
Too good to be true? Of course it is! This plan, which includes 1500MB of data per month for only $9.95, is an introductory offer good for the first six months, after which it rises to $19.95.  And probably it’s better to pay a bit more for a ‘shaped’ plan, which is less costly if you ever exceed your download limit. Even so it’s a good deal.

For more info visit http://www.activ8me.net.au/
or call 1300 791 500 . Other companies offer a similar deal, but may use a different satellite.
