Donkeys at the Riding for Disabled Association
Article by Heather Bradbury.
Donkeys are excellent animals for use in RDA (Riding for the Disabled) because generally when trained they have a quiet gentle and patient disposition.
RDA is available across Australia, there are approx. 37 RDA centres in Victoria alone. The majority are for riding but there are a few that run carriage driving classes for those clients who are wheelchair bound or do not have the ability to sit on the horse.
I volunteer for the driving group run in Moe, Gippsland with my donkey Jackston, I think he may well be the only donkey used for carriage RDA driving in Australia, but if someone reading this knows of another I would love to hear from them.
One of my drivers is Tim and he has put together this short article for our website, in the photos it is Tim and myself driving Jackston.
